Outerwear: Fall and Winter’s Warm Essentials
The official start of Fall is two days away and we can hardly contain our excitement! If there’s one thing you need in your closet as the weather gives way to colder temperatures, it’s lots and lots of outerwear! If you stop to think of all those Pinterest images you’ve saved of perfectly pulled-together Fall outfits, you’ll realize that many of them included warm essentials like faux fur vests, ponchos, trench coats, capes, and cardigans. After all, in 60 or 50 degree weather, what gorgeous Fall outfit would be complete without any one of these warm items?
Get Creative With Your Outerwear Choices:
It’s no secret to the the style-conscious woman that she would do well to keep several classic outerwear options in her closet for the colder seasons. Going around town, whether to and from the office or to a nice dinner date, calls for a sturdy, yet stylish coat. However, wearing the same basic black or gray wool coat year after year can at times feel drab and lacking in creativity. Sure, sometimes you need this basic coat for certain occasions, but for all other times, why not be a little more expressive? This is where different types of coats and colors come into play. If you’re the type of person who craves a little individuality amidst a sea of black coats, well then you’ll likely smile at the sight of a dusty pink trench coat or a shimmery taupe trench with (gasp!) no buttons running down the middle! Find an interesting new take on the classic coat and take a fashion risk; You'll be adding some much-needed creativity to your closet!
Faux Fur Frenzy
Of course, you may have heard by now that fur is on-trend for Fall. Many fashion designers included fur in their designs for their Fall 2016 runway shows and it as clear they saw no limitations on how to incorporate fur into any outfit. For those off the runway, layering a faux-fur vest to your Fall wardrobe is one of the easiest, simplest ways to dress up a basic outfit like a pair of jeans and a long sleeve top. You’ll look all together autumnal! Tip: for a more casual outfit, look for a faux fur vest that comes i a loose, comfortable fit. In contrast, for a more structured ensemble, look for a fur vest that has a tighter cut; it gives off a polished look.
An age old way to add fur to your outerwear is by wearing a cape or coat with faux fur along the collar: it adds instant sophistication, trust us! You can wear your faux fur collar coat over an elegant dress or over your denim jeans for a more relaxed look.
Capes and Blazers
There is no other work wear staple that carries greater importance or versatility than the cape or blazer. A cape or blazer can truly transform even the most basic, casual outfit into a more professional ensemble. If you’re running late and don’t know what to wear to work that day, pair a black fitted pant with a grid blazer or an olive cape and you’ll look like you spent a good deal of preparation on your look! Better yet, keep an extra blazer at your desk for fashion emergencies! Throw it over a pencil skirt for a meeting or wear it when the air conditioning is cranked up just a little too high!
Ponchos and Kimonos
There’s something so comforting about the poncho. It has the ability to make you look stylish all the while feeling relaxed and comfortable. That’s a win-win! Even more exciting is that brands are starting to carry ponchos in more and more colors, prints and patterns. This makes for easy styling because all you’ll need to add is a jean or pant, and a good pair of boots; there's no need to fuss with jewelry or scarves, just a good top coat if the weather calls for it.
The kimono’s popularity has risen over the years and now makes regular appearances during Summer and Fall. During the warmer months, kimonos can be layered over denim shorts. During the colder months of Fall and Winter, kimonos of autumnal patterns and colors can be layered over skinny or bootcut jeans, and topped with a pretty, solid-colored scarf.
The Trench Coat
What woman wouldn’t want a gorgeous trench coat hanging in her closet? Its the perfect Fall wardrobe staple! A trench coat is definitely a piece worth investing in, as it can add so much polish and sophistication to your look with no effort at all!
