The Blouse: Every Fashion Girl's Must Have Closet Staple
Blouses and long sleeve tops are an absolute must-have for Fall and Winter weather. You can take a blouse of any material and it’ll work overtime for you no matter what you’re wearing. You can dress up a blouse with slacks, a pencil skirt or fitted pants, or dress it down by styling it with denim jeans and ankle boots. One of the best things about the blouse is how comfortable and flattering the fit is: a blouse is meant to have a loose fit, meaning it won’t tug at you or squeeze you in the wrong places! Furthermore, a blouse is a garment that you can wear in any season; it’s one of the most versatile pieces you’ll have in your closet.
The Blouse Trend
This year, bell sleeves are all the rage and we’re glad they’ve made such a strong come back! The bell sleeve blouse is an ode to both the long-gone Renaissance age (think back to those gorgeous dresses) and of course, the groovy ‘70s where hipsters wore the bell sleeve look at every opportunity.
Extra Long Sleeves may have made a splash at the Fall 2016 runway shows this year but it’s a trend that’s not very practical. For a more conservative take on the trend, try looking for a top whose long sleeves extend past the wrist but stop before the fingertips. An ode to centuries past, the bell sleeve top or dress is feminine, fresh and perfect for both elegant and casual outfits.
To add an extra layer of individuality to your bell sleeve top, try looking for one in an interesting pattern as opposed to one of solid color. This will ensure that you don’t spend too much time on styling your outfit because this top won’t need accessorizing; it can stand alone. For a more polished or elegant outfit, look for a solid color blouse; it'll go well with fitted black pants and a classic trench coat.
White and Ivory Blouses: A Wardrobe Essential
No matter what you do for a living, it seems that there’s always a need for a white or ivory blouse at some point or another. A white blouse will always be a wardrobe staple, no matter the season. During Spring and Summer, white button down cotton tops pop up on the streets along with boyfriend jeans or denim cutoffs. During the Fall and Winter, white blouses are routinely styled with structured pieces like a pencil skirt or pant suit. You should undoubtedly have a basic white blouse in your closet for those times when it's called for (like a job interview or important business meeting) but you would do well to stock up on a few more blouses with a little more personality, too. White or ivory blouses these days are designed with subtle details to set them apart from the fray, such as a lapel collar, a front pocket, or three quarter sleeves. Also, some blouses won’t have any buttons on them at all, giving way to a more relaxed and feminine look.
On Trend for Fall and Winter: Floral Blouses
Fall is an excellent time to wear anything floral! With the weather giving way to colder temperatures and beautiful foliage, floral patterns with deep, rich colors will make for a perfect outfit this time of year. Style your floral long sleeve top or floral blouse with green or tan skinny pants to look appropriately autumnal and chic!
Fall Colors: Rich and Bold
Don’t think of a a blouse or long sleeve top as a boring alternative to funky cardigans and ponchos. A blouse or long sleeve top can pack just as much personality as long as it’s made with the right colors! Fall and Winter are perfect seasons to bring out rich, bold colors that can make a statement. Think navy, royal blue, maroon, creamy taupe and soulful grays! By having these colors stocked in your closet, you can pair them quickly and easily with closet basics like black and blue skinny jeans or a mini skirt with tights and booties.
V-Neck Blouses and Tops
There’s something about the v-neck top that makes it look prettier and sultrier than any other neckline. Perhaps its the way it shows off a universally flattering area of the woman's body: her collarbone and decolletage. The v-neck blouse or long leeve top show just enough skin to be at once alluring and elegant. Try a blouse that pairs the v-neckline design with other trends of the season, such as bell sleeves or the peep-shoulder look.
